In sensual terms, many of us experience a recognition of ‘domestic intimacy’ through our emotional connections to the act of nourishing ourselves physically.  My pottery forms and surfaces are subtle emotional translations/expressions of a combination of personal memories of past domestic experiences and of the current domestic realities that ultimately shape my identity both physically and mentally. 

My pots are not only useful objects, they are also subjects that have the ability to affect their users’ sensibilities and to act upon the domestic spaces they occupy.  When I make, I consider tenderness through forms that are soft and comfortable and through glaze surfaces that have depth and nuance in terms of light transmission, color and their tactile qualities.  My  forms also intentionally reflect, for me, an awareness of my own body shape/condition and subtly address the duality that, “you are what you eat”.

I am concerned about what the pots in a series express through formal elements such as shape, color and texture.  I do not rely on one style only; I make formal decisions that reflect my intentions based on certain conceptual models.

Although utility is what I ultimately engage in celebrating through my ceramic work, I also present my pots in assemblages and installations.  These ‘pot-stallations’ serve as subjective expressions of my own intuitions about the dual nature of physical and emotional nourishment.  In addition, I encourage viewers to consider the potential that pots are so much more than the current reality of how they are perceived:  the interconnectedness between mind and body is something that has been all but forgotten in our fast-paced world and, like any relationship, it must be nurtured to be successful.
